Jack Carmichael, 88, founded the breakfast as a way to bring people of all faiths together. Green’s keynote speech was part of the program where more than 400 elected officials, city employees, business professionals, emergency personnel, school officials and community members gathered to hear Scripture readings and inspirational songs.
The three-time NBA champion told the audience, “I really played for an audience of one … Jesus” and described how his Christian faith played a role in his success on the court. Green said he found listening to Jesus helped to drown out the “noise” in everyday life. “Allow Him to be part of your lives on a daily basis,” he said. “You are able to hear His voice, even if something is interfering, just move it out of the way.”
David Krake, chairman of the Prayer Breakfast Committee, called the event a way to “uplift the community.”
