SPRINGFIELD, IL. — Former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher, Andy Benes, was the guest speaker April 19 at the annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Home Team Banquet held at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield. Along with Benes, the event included college football coach Ron Brown who served as the master of ceremonies. Brown is a former assistant at Nebraska and a current aide at Youngstown State. During his 14-year career as an MLB pitcher from 1989 to 2002, Benes played for four different teams: the San Diego Padres, the Seattle Mariners, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is a devout Christian and has stated in a previous testimony that “God’s made me a champion for Christ.”
