PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — Yankees legend, Bobby Richardson, will be the guest speaker at Pittsylvania County Sports Hall of Fame’s second induction ceremony to be held on Aug. 7, 2015. The Sports Hall of Fame ceremony will include 14 inductees, four of whom are posthumous. The event, which is open to the public, takes place at 7 p.m. at White Oak Grove Outreach Ministries on Dry Fork Road in Dry Fork, Va. Formed in 2013, the Sports Hall of Fame’s board of directors includes George Henderson, Ronnie Haymore, R.J. Weaver, Brenda Bowman, Peyton Sellers, David Bullins, Eddie Walker, Jessie Barksdale, Steve Welch, Billy Stowe, Doug Craddock, and Mike Neal. In its first induction last year, the Sports Hall of Fame enshrined the late Garnett “Tink” Richardson, Fred Clifton, Ed Fittz, George and Jackie Henderson, David and Connie Bullins, Rhonda Barts, Sammy McCormick, Robert Prunty, the late J. Haywood Crider, Ronnie Haymore, and Willie Craft.

Bobby Richardson was a five-time Golden Glove second baseman for the New York Yankees from 1955 to 1966 and an eight-time All-Star. is a popular Christian speaker & former MLB second baseman who played for the New York Yankees from 1955 through 1966. He had his best year in 1962 when he batted .302 with eight home runs and 59 runs batted in. His 209 hits led the American League. He was with New York when the Yankees won the World Series in 1958, 1961, and 1962. After retiring from Major League Baseball, Richardson was head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks from 1970-1976. He is devout Christian who speaks openly about his faith and love of Christ.
