Charlie Ward Named Keynote Speaker at Bo Porter Fundraiser

HOUSTON, TX. — Florida State University Heisman Trophy winner, Charlie Ward, has been named the keynote speaker at the SELF Foundation Opening Day Breakfast fundraiser on April 1. The event will be held at Vic & Anthony’s in Houston Texas, with doors opening at 6:00 a.m. with the event following from 7:00 – 8:30 a.m. The SELF Foundation was started by Astros manager Bo Porter & his wife Stacey, to provide and support programs dedicated to improving and impacting the lives of others through Sports, Education, Life Skills and Faith.

Astros bench coach Dave Trembley and former Astros general manager and player Bob Watson will be the co-keynote speakers on March 31. The SELF Foundation initially planned to have only one Opening Day breakfast, but the April 1 event was added after the March 31 sold out quickly. Both will be held from 7-8:30 a.m.

Ward is a former NBA basketball player, college football Heisman Trophy winner, Davey O’Brien Award winner and a MLB draftee. He is considered one of the best all-around athletes in the last quarter century. He was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame with Emmitt Smith and Bobby Bowden in 2006.
