HILTON HEAD ISLAND — Former New Orleans Saints safety and Super Bowl XLIV champ, Chris Reis, delivered the keynote speech on June 11, 2014 at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Week of Champions banquet held on Hilton Head Island, S.C. Reis spoke to the young athletes about his Christian faith and his father’s recovery from alcohol and sex addictions. Both Chris and his father published a book in 2012, “Recovery of a Lifetime,” which chronicles Mike Reis’ desire to fight his demons, overcome his addictions and repair his family relationships.
Camp director Chuck Workman was happy to have Reis as the keynote speaker for this year’s banquet. “It’s a pleasure to have Chris here as our keynote speaker,” he said. “Chris is a great man, he’s a great father, a great husband and of course a follower of Jesus… He’s a great addition to the banquet and the camp and he has a great story to share with these young athletes.” Source: Bluffton Sports

Football fans will remember that Chris Reis played a crucial role in the New Orleans Saints’ Super Bowl comeback win against the Indianapolis Colts, when head coach Sean Payton called for an onside kick to open the second half. Reis recovered the ball after a Thomas Morstead’s kick bounced off of the Colts’ Hank Baskett, allowing the Saints to score a touchdown, take the lead and eventually win 30-17.
“What’s crazy about that play is that I wasn’t supposed to make that play,” Reis said. “God took a nobody like me and put me on a platform and asked me what I was going to do… It’s truly humbling, just truly humbling.”
