ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. — Former Major League Baseball legend and eight-time all-star, Darryl Strawberry, has been named the keynote speaker by Cornerstone Youth Center. Cornerstone’s 10th annual banquet will be held on March 27 at 6 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Ministries ’s Family Life Center located in Elizabethtown, PA.

“Strawberry was selected to share his story with the youth Cornerstone serves,” said Laurie Shepler, Cornerstone’s associate director. “We try to raise the bar every year,” Shepler said. “We really feel that he can speak to lots of our youth. We think it’s going to be a really good fit for Cornerstone.”
Doors for the fundraiser open at 5 p.m. and the event is free to the public, though, tickets are required. In addition to Strawberry’s talk, a catered dinner will accompany a benefit auction. Auction items include a one-night bed and breakfast package donated by the Hotel Hershey, sporting events and signed memorabilia.

Strawberry, who battled a cocaine addiction that led to the downfall of his baseball career, was able to turn his life around after becoming a born again Christian and began a new life as a pastor. Today he does speaking engagements along with his wife, Tracy. Today Strawberry is the founder of Strawberry Ministries, which now has several recovery centers and programs around the country to help others struggling with addiction.
Strawberry is teaming up with Cornerstone Community Ministries to promote their mission to provide a safe and fun environment where youth can form trusting relationships. Cornerstone Youth Center provides after school youth programs, transportation, college tutors, space to play and adult mentorship in a safe and fun environment.
During his 17-year career, Strawberry helped lead the New York Mets to a World Series championship in 1986 and the New York Yankees to three World Series championships in 1996, 1998 and 1999.. He is an evangelical born-again Christian and has appeared on The Trinity Broadcasting Network. In 1999, he and Tiny Lister appeared on evangelist Benny Hinn’s T.V. program giving their testimonies. Strawberry has also appeared on the 700 Club to talk about his life and his new found faith in Jesus.
