MENOMONIE, WI — Former Minnesota Viking and current Director of Football Development for the NFL, Matt Birk, will attend the 24th annual Western WI Youth Football Camp from July 26 until July 28 to be held at Menomonie Middle School. The camp, run by over 25 coaches from across Western, Wis., will be featured as a model camp by the NFL and will run from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. each night. The three-day camp costs $40 dollars, including a camp T-shirt, a nightly treat, and a motivational speaker at the end of each session. Source: Dunn County News.
“We are very fortunate, and really excited that Matt Birk is coming to Menomonie,” Menomonie varsity football coach Joe LaBuda said. “It is really exciting that they chose our youth camp.”

Matt Birk is a former NFL center. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 1998, and later played for the Baltimore Ravens where he played four seasons and ended his career after the Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2013. He received the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2011 for his commitment to improving literacy among at-risk youth. He was named the Vikings’ “Man of the Year” six times during his career.
Birk established the HIKE Foundation in 2002, which seeks to “impact the lives of at-risk children by providing interactive programs and resources needed to guide a child through the key educational transitions between elementary, middle, high school and college.”The foundation launched “Ready, Set, Read!” in select Baltimore area public schools in the fall of 2010. The program works with about 100,000 Baltimore students on improving their reading skills. Birk is a pro-life activist. He is also a practicing Catholic and father of six.
