“Every year we hold a banquet and it’s one of our largest fundraising events,” said John Capps, FCA representative. “We honor students and a coach from the area and bring in a guest speaker and this year we have Jim Sundberg. We are real excited to have him. We honor kids in their local huddles (bible study groups) in the area,” said Capps. “My area goes from Madill, Tish and Atoka. We got all of Southeast Oklahoma which is about 48 schools. We are always working to expand the ministry, that’s why this night is so important, because we show what the ministry is doing.” “It’s an organization that partners with the local churches,” said Capps. “We are using sports as a tool to funnel people towards the church. It’s part of our mission statement to work with the church in the area. We use sports to promote the ministry. It’s a way we can connect with each town and each area.”

Jim Sundberg is a former MLB catcher known for being one of the best defensive catchers of his era. He played for a number of MLB teams, mostly for the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals, with whom he won a World Championship. He is a devout Christian who openly speaks about his faith in God.
