NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. — Retired New York Giants legend George Martin has been named the keynote speaker for the first ever Orange County Leadership Prayer breakfast scheduled to be held on Nov. 10 at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor. Sponsors of the event will receive five (5) seats at the breakfast for a tax deductible donation of $300.00. The Orange County Leadership Prayer Breakfast committee will use the remaining seats at the table to invite elected and appointed Orange County municipal officials, community and business leaders, and the public. George Martin is a former New York Giants defensive end, author and motivational speaker.He prevailed as the star defensive end during the 1970’s and 1980’s, with 96 quarterback sacks, the touchdown record for a defensive lineman, a Super Bowl victory, and numerous other accolades.In later years, Martin, who overcame a childhood mired in poverty, served as the president of the NFL Players Association, advocating for retired players with chronic injuries and creating a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring young people through athletics.
Martin authored a book about his trek across America, Just Around the Bend: My Journey for 9/11, in homage to those impacted by the tragedy. Martin also completed “A Journey for 9/11,” a nine-month walk across the U.S., from New York City to San Diego, raising over $2 million to benefit ailing first responders of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Martin began his trek on the George Washington Bridge on Sept. 16, 2007, passing through portions of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Martin concluded his trip on June 21, 2008 in San Diego.
