COOKEVILLE, TN. — Former UT head football coach Phillip Fulmer was the keynote speaker on Thursday May 14, 2015 at the Tennessee Kidney Foundation Upper Cumberland Kidney Breakfast held at the Leslie Town Centre in Cookeville. Averitt Express was the sponsor for the inaugural breakfast which was themed ‘Family, Community & Future.’ The purpose of the event was to provide an open dialogue on how to prevent kidney disease as well as understand the importance of organ donation. “There’s lots and lots of really good causes and charities,” Coach Fulmer told the Herald-Citizen. “You have to kind of pick and choose because you can’t do them all. Because I’ve had friends and family that have a kidney disorder, I have an interest in helping any way that I can. I’m glad to have the opportunity to come to Cookeville and have a chance to support this great cause … Not only do you raise funds like this for events, you also raise awareness,” Coach Fulmer said. “It’s a national and international problem and it hits home when someone in your family or a dear friend has to deal with it. You see the tough things the patient goes through, but it also affects the family.”
