Dave Dravecky is a retired MLB pitcher who played for the San Diego Padres from 1982–1987 and the San Francisco Giants from 1987–1989. His career was cut short when in 1988 it was discovered that he had cancer in his pitching arm and underwent surgery to remove a large part of the muscle. Although he made a comeback and returned to pitching 10 months later, in a game against the Montreal Expos, while on the mound his arm broke delivering a pitch. Less than two years after his comeback with the Giants, his left arm and shoulder were amputated when doctors discovered the cancer had returned. Dravecky holds strong Christian beliefs.
